Longtime North Massapequa Fire Captain Dies

Services set for Benedict Russo, 87.

A North Massapequa Fire Captain who served the Department for more than half a century died Saturday according to the Legacy.com website.

Benedict J. Russo, who joined the department in 1961 and served up until his death Saturday was 87.

Russo was also a Navy veteran who served in World War II and was married for 55 years to his late wife Rose.

He leaves three children and seven grandchildren.

Visitation will be at the James Funeral Home at 540 Broadway from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and a Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. at 75 Seamens Neck Road, in Seaford.
