***The Day After***

                                              ***The Day After***

Yesterday was the Feast of St. Joseph, for a man who is often forgotten despite his integral role in Christianity’s history. Joseph didn’t just feed and clothe Mary and Jesus; he ensured their survival. Upon learning of Mary’s pregnancy while they were betrothed, he could have walked away or had her condemned to stoning. His faith in God would lead him to do what many might not have. Even though he had not had relations with Mary, he married her with child. Joseph kept them safe from a jealous king, who spewed strict orders to terminate all male babies two years old and under in Bethlehem and its vicinity. Through Divine Angelic guidance, he did what was necessary to secure our Savior’s life …even when it was difficult, perplexing, or unbelievable to the limited human mind. His tremendous love and faith guaranteed Jesus’ place as the Redemptive Healer of all time and the Son of God. Without Joseph’s participation, a very different story probably would have materialized.

After the St. Joseph cakes on Wednesday, we are able to see beyond the delectable treats and well-meaning tidings of the day. Sometimes, in the quiet stillness of the following day, we realize just how blessed we are because others have sacrificed a great deal for us. The day after, which can often be viewed as anti-climactic, can hold the true essence of gratitude and understanding while dispensing clarity from the Heavens.

Thank you St. Joseph for your trust and willingness to do what was right and asked of you. Your determination and steadfast loyalty allowed the Light of the World to be born and thrive. For this, we are eternally grateful. How fortunate we are when another hears the Word of God, and responds accordingly this day … and the day after.
