What Would You Improve in Lindenhurst?

What would you improve the Village and North Lindenhurst? Share your thoughts here about how to make this community a better place.

Like most communities on Long Island, Lindenhurst Village and North Lindenhurst have great things to offer residents, but could always use improvements.

Local schools continue to provide students a solid education, but the tax cap and unfunded mandates threaten the school district's fiscal future. Burglaries seem to have become a bit more commonplace, too, as the economy stagnates.

And while there are success stories throughout the business district of Lindenhurst, but vacancies still exist and the need to attract new business continues.

It's times like these that people get to thinking about the home they love so much, coming up with their own ideas, whether they're wild stretches of the imagination or practical fixes that are altogether doable, to keep all of Lindenhurst great into the foreseeable future.

So let's hear them, Lindy.

In the spirit of putting the local dreamer and the civic leaders on the same plane, we'd like to give all locals the opportunity to share their big ideas for Lindy. In this forum, no idea should be shot down.

Instead, let's gather as many suggestions as we can so we can later narrow the list down to a short list of the most popular ideas for our community.

I agree with Lindy Mom..We, the people that live here have to shop in our local stores more often to keep the stores here. I thought Lindenhurst didn't allow absentee landords?

Yes Eddie, your right. I agree with most of what you said. We have much to be thankful for in our Village but the only way we can walk to see all is if you take the bus or park in Waldbaum's parking lot. Speed down Wellwood Avenue in the Village? Really? Two "For Rent" sign's in our small Village is too many.

I agree, renter's should pay their fair share of school taxes. Pennsylvania has a head tax. People pay per person living in the house. Absentee landlords should be accountable for taxes paid for each child/person that lives in a home they are renting. Instead of removing benches, add more. The new upscale shops can provide one in front of their store. Others can be provided by donation's as we see in Babylon Town Hall park. More benches will bring more walkers into the area too. I agree, wrong way parking on any street should be given a ticket. It's the little things that happen to any area that make all eventually go downhill. If we don't complain the little things will continue until it can't be fixed easily. Normal people? Who are they?
