Home Appliance Warning Signs to Watch For

You know you have a problem when your toilet floods your bathroom or your milk goes bad because your refrigerator doesn’t stay cold. But, there are other, smaller warning signs that your appliances are having problems.

Refrigerator

When you open your fridge door and notice moisture or condensation inside, the seal on the door most likely needs to be repaired or replaced. Also, if you hear the fridge’s motor running continually, it could signal that it is having a problem maintaining a consistent temperature.

Toilet

A running toilet is more than annoying. It could mean the toilet is broken and could actually increase your water bills. In most cases, a running toilet needs a new flapper, but it some cases it needs a different part. Another thing to watch for is water around the base of the toilet, signaling a leak.

Dishwasher

Water collecting on the bottom of your dishwasher means the drain needs to be repaired. Other things to watch for include the dishwasher stopping mid cycle, excessive noise or dishes that aren’t cleaned or dried properly. Your dishwasher is connected to both your water and power supply, so let a professional plumber handle these repairs.

Water Boiler

You know you have a problem with your water boiler when you are always stuck with a cold shower. Things like leaks and rusty patches on the unit itself also signal a problem. If these signs sound familiar, contact a plumber who specializes in water boiler repair.

Furnace and Air Conditioner

If you don’t get enough hot or cool air from your air vents, first check to make sure the unit’s pilot light is on. It is recommended that you change your furnace’s filters every few months to make sure it runs efficiently and to trap dust and pollen. If you still experience problems, contact an expert.
