Accused Drunken Bus Driver Goes to Court

Massapequa Park man was allegedly drunk when bus crashed into a house with students aboard.

The Massapequa Park man accused of being drunk at the wheel of a school bus that crashed in Syosset in October headed to court Thursday.

Frederick Flowers, 66, of Massapequa Park, was driving five St. Edward the Confessor School students home Oct. 3 when it crashed into a Teibrook Lane house. The children, between the ages of five and nine, were reportedly unharmed in the accident, a fact detectives later called a "miracle."

After he was airlifted to Nassau University Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries, said detectives. Flowers' blood alcohol content was not reported.

Flowers was charged with five counts of aggravated driving while intoxicated (Leandra's Law), five counts of reckless endangerment, and two counts of driving while intoxicated.
