A Massapequa woman suffered severe head trauma she was struck by a vehicle on Unqua Road Thursday morning, in what police are calling a hit and run accident.
The 45-year-old woman, whose name was not immediately released, was riding south on Unqua in the northbound when she struck the mirror of a parked vehicle near Morris Lane.
She fell off the bike and landed on the road when she was hit by a car traveling north that did not remain at the scene, police said.
The car that fled was described as a older model teal colored Ford Taurus. The woman was taken to an area hospital where she was treated for her head injuries.
The accident took place about a block south of the at 11:35 a.m.
Parents received emails saying that Unqua road was closed until about 2:25 p.m. and dismissal was not affected by the accident.
The letter said, "virtually all of the children in the school were unaware of what had occurred outside."
