Boat Rescue Drama Ends at Burns Park

Boat flips in Seaford, causing four to swim ashore.

Four men were forced to swim to shore, and one of them had to swim for help after their boat flipped off the South Shore, police said.

The incident occured near the Great Island Channel in Seaford Thursday evening.

According to Nassau County detectives, around 7:56 p.m., four Seaford men, three age 19 and one 20, were traveling on an 18-foot boat when they struck marshland in Great Island Cannel, causing the boat to flip.

The men swam to a nearby island, police said. Three of them stayed on the island while the fourth swam to the mainland for help.

Marine 6 and the Wantagh Fire Department were dispatched and Marine 6 was able to rescue the men and bring them safely to John Burns Park in Massapequa, police said.

No injuries were reported. There is no criminality involved in this accident at this time, police said.
