Bomb Scare Evacuates DMV

Stores in Carmans Plaza in Massapequa shut down Thursday.

The Massapequa office of the Department of Motor Vehicles was evacuated by a bomb scare Thursday afternoon, police said.

The incident happened at about 3:45 p.m. when a man left a laptop unattended inside the DMV.

An employee became concerned and alerted authorities. The bomb and arson squad responded and found the laptop was not a threat.

A person who was inside the DMV and was on line near the laptop owner, believes the man left after trying to apply for something without having proper identification.

Several other stores in the Carmans Plaza shopping center were also evacuated for about three hours.
