Cops: Man Arrested in Virginia For Burglary in Massapequa

Donald P. Smith picked up in Norfolk, extradited to Nassau in connection with Dec. 9 incident.

DNA evidence left at the scene of a burglary in Massapequa earlier this month led to an arrest in Virginia on Monday, according to Nassau County police.

Police say Donald P. Smith, of Newport News, Virg., cut himself Dec. 9 as he entered a residence on W. Shore Drive after prying open and shattering a second story window before removing assorted jewelry.

Smith, 44, was charged with one count of second degree burglary after an investigation led to his arrest on an open warrant in Norfolk.

Smith was extradited to Nassau County Dec. 17 and charged with one count of second degree burgalry. He will be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead.
