An off-duty Suffolk County police officer was assaulted after he helped a Macy's security guard apprehend a shoplifter, police said.
The officer spotted Henry Bryer, 54, of Roosevelt struggling to get away from a Macy's security officer, at 11:22 a.m. on Friday.
The cop identified himself and ordered Bryer to get down on the ground. Instead he began to fight with the cop, causing him to sustain neck, back and elbow injuries during the arrest, police said.
Bryer was charged with assault, resisting arrest and petty larceny.
