Crime Nearby: Burglary Arrest in Jericho

A Look at crime outside the Massapequa area.

Jericho

A Baldwin man is under arrest in a burglary in Jericho, according to second squad detectives.

Jahvis Williams, 18, allegedly entered a Jericho home at 9:55 a.m. by breaking a glass door on the side of the house, said police. Once inside the Seaman Road house, Williams took an Apple computer and iPod and fled the scene, reported police.

A suspicious person was reported at 12:22 that afternoon in Levittown where a female off-duty NYPD officer observed the defendant and followed him until he fled the scene. Third precinct officers recovered the stolen items in the vehicle, which they found on Hempstead Turnpike and Merrick Road in East Meadow. Marijuana was also found in the car.

Williams is being charged with second degree burglary, fourth degree criminal possession of stolen property, possession of burglar tools, unlawful possession of marijuana and reckless driving. He will be arraigned Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead.

Farmingdale

A 26-year-old West Babylon man is under arrest and charged with allegedly stealing 22 bronze cemetery vases from a Farmingdale cemetery operation.

Police say Shaun Dosch took the vases from Pinelawn Memorial Park during the past few months with the intent to melt down the items to sell as scrap metal. The estimated value of the vases is $7,000, according to police.

The arrest by First Squad detectives took place on February 18 following information received from First Precinct Community Oriented Police Enforcement Officer Joseph Russo.

Dosch is charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree, criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree.

Hicksville

Nassau County detectives have charged a Flushing man with counterfeiting in connection with the illegal distribution of fake DVDs.

Detectives with the Second Squad charged Zhan Lin, 45, of 166-15 65 Ave., Flushing, following a sting operation in Hicksville.

Lin approached two plainclothes Bureau of Special Operations officers who were inside 265 N. Broadway, Hicksville on Friday. The defendant offered to sell them DVD movies for $5 each, police said. The officers identified themselves and placed Lin under arrest without incident.

In addition to numerous counterfeit DVDs he had in his possession, hundreds more were found inside his vehicle, police said.

Lin is charged with counterfeiting and two counts of failing to disclose the origin of a recording. He was arraigned on Saturday in First District Court, Hempstead.

Seventeen people, including eight at a CVS pharmacy in Hicksville, face felony charges of forging prescriptions at various pharmacies throughout Nassau  County.

Eight of those arrested had attempted to fill forged prescriptions to obtain painkillers at the CVS in Hicksville, at the corner of Old Country Road and Newbridge Road, authorities said.

In one case, a woman posed as a doctor or nurse practitioner on seven different occasions and called in prescriptions for patients whose identity she had stolen.

Northport

A man reported that a neighbor bumped his parked car on Ward Avenue Feb. 8 then told him that he shouldn't park where he usually does.

A landlord on Norwood Avenue reported on Feb. 8 that she is trying to have a tenant evicted and the tenant keeps hand delivering legal correspondence in her mail box. The Northport Post Office post master informed the police that it is a federal violation to hand deliver correspondence to a residential mailbox and added that  the post office usually gives one warning to the offender before the violation is enforced.

Lindenhurst

Three men were arrested Thursday morning after they broke into an auto equipment shop in North Lindenhurst, police said.

First Precinct patrol officers responded to an alarm at S-K Speed Racing Equipment, located at 1075 Route 109 of a burglary in progress around 5:15 a.m., police said.

When they arrived, officers spotted three men on the roof of the auto parts shop. The men then attempted to flee on foot, police said.

The suspects were quickly apprehended after officers set up a perimeter, police said.

Eric Agraz, 20, of North Bellmore, Carlos Silva, 17, of Huntington Station, and Juan Carlos Ortiz, 19, of Huntington Station, are each charged with third degree burglary and possession of burglary tools.

Manorville

As Suffolk police continue their investigation into the murders of 10 victims found along Ocean Parkway near Gilgo Beach, a new set of skeletal remains found in Manorville Friday could potentially boost that number to 11.

Suffolk Police will not comment if the remains, found a quarter of a mile west of Wading River Road, are tied to the Gilgo case which dates back to December 2010 when the first set of remains were found between Oak Beach and Gilgo Beach. They said they could not comment on whether the remains included or head or what body parts were involved. Two Gilgo victims’ body parts were found a short distance from the newest discovery site in Manorville. One is an unidentified woman tagged as Jane Doe No. 6 whose torso and left foot were found first in Manorville in 2000 and whose head, hands and right foot were found Gilgo in April, 2011.

Smithtown

Suffolk County Police on Wednesday arrested a Smithtown man for allegedly taking money for a used car that he never delivered to the buyer.

Emmanuel Amaral, 42, collected $2,000 in cash as well as a check for $2,800, police said, for a 2006 Ford Van he was allegedly selling.

Police said Amaral, who told authorities that he sells cars out of Jake’s Towing and Recovery at 4 Yerk Ave. in Ronkonkoma, has been charged with similar crimes in the past.

That's why police think other incidents involving Amaral may have gone unreported, and they are asking anyone with knowledge to call CrimeStoppers at 631-854-8452.

when you say elite do you mean the hard working people who have money? it's a matter of labels. youRead More call them elite..they call themselves hard workers. yes, some inherit money. but most of us work for it.
Michael Taustine June 16, 2013 at 09:01 pm
No, it has nothing to do with how hard you work. It's just that the elite one percenters are treatedRead More differently when they run afoul of the laws in this country. No one has been jailed for the corporate malfeasance that resulted in the financial crash of '08, in spite of the rules that were ignored or broken. Too big to fail is the order of the day. Meanwhile, petty frauds committed by poor and middle class are prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Two Americas. The rule of law, unevenly applied, whether by race, or class, or economic station will result in the unraveling of society. We may well be seeing the beginnings of that now, as we've entered a new gilded age, where new robber barons are allowed to run roughshod over the lower classes. The very ideals of America are at stake, and we are letting them slide away.

Will the new Massapequa station platform be covered end-to-end as it is now? If it will only beRead More partially covered, like Seaford station, there are going to be a lot of cold, wet, unhappy commuters.
Patrick O'Hara June 12, 2013 at 04:14 pm
Mr. Coyote, The design plans only call for a canopy over certain parts of the station platform, likeRead More almost all of the other stations along the branch. The canopies will be primarily over the staircases, elevator, waiting room, and one other small section on the middle section of the platform between the elevator and east escalator.
