Crime Nearby: Burglaries in Northeast Nassau

A look at police reports outside of Masspequa.

Plainview

Nassau police detectives report a in the northeastern portion of Nassau County are continuing, including at least three new burglaries last weekend in Plainview, four more in Syosset and one in Woodbury.

This latest report addes to a string of burglaries have been reported in recent weeks in Plainview, Woodbury, Hicksville, and Syosset.

Farmingdale

Two South Farmingdale men were arrested early Sunday morning after a confrontation with several Nassau County police officers.

According to eighth squad Detective Bernhardt, officers responded to a report of an unconscious person.  Police said that upon arrival the officers were confronted by Michael Rosen, 22, who tackled and punched the officers while they tried to assist him to a waiting ambulance.

After a struggle the defendant was placed into custody, police said. The father of the defendant, Robert Rosen, 52, then threatened an officer while blocking him from leaving the home and he was also placed into custody.

Two of the officers were also taken to the hospital, where one was treated for a sprained right ankle and right knee and the another was treated for pain to his right wrist, right elbow and abdomen. After treatment, the officers were released.

Michael Rosen is charged with two counts of assault in the second degree and will be arraigned as soon as practical, police said. Robert Rosen is charged with resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration in the second degree. 

Commack

The Scene, located at 70 Vanderbilt Motor Parkway, Commack, was raided by police Wednesday as part of an investigation into an alleged mob ring that smuggled Eastern European women into America and forced them to work as exotic dancers.

Merrick

A complainant that lives on Lindenmere Drive received a phone call from someone who she believed to be her grandson stating he got into trouble with the law in Barcelona and needed her to wire over $2,000 to get him out of jail.  In addition, someone claiming to be from the U.S. Embassy called with instructions to wire the money. Complainant complied and later spoke to her grandson who stated he was not in Barcelona. This incident was reported to the police on Nov. 15.

Malverne-West Hempstead

The Roslyn Savings Bank located at 50 Hempstead Turnpike was nearly robbed for the second time in less than a month on Monday afternoon.

According to Nassau County detectives, around 1:08 p.m., a black male suspect, approximately 6 feet tall, 30 to 40 years old, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and baseball cap, entered the bank. The suspect walked up to one of the tellers and appeared to begin preparing a demand note.

The employee walked away, causing the man to flee the bank emptyhanded on Hempstead Turnpike, police said.

Less than one month ago, on Nov. 14, a man, fitting the same description as the suspect in Monday's attempted robbery, an undisclosed amount of cash from the same bank.
