Crime Nearby: Reward in Fatal Accident

West Babylon

Suffolk County Police are searching for the driver of the vehicle involved in a fatal hit and run crash in West Babylon in October that killed 30-year-old Jennifer Wheeler.

Wheeler was struck by a vehicle on westbound Sunrise Highway, 500 feet west of Jerome Avenue, on Oct. 7 at approximately 1:30 a.m. Wheeler, of North Lindenhurst, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential. 

Great Neck

Salvatore Perrone, a garment district salesman from Staten Island, confessed Wednesday to a killing spree that included the alleged murder of a Great Neck man, according to a Huffington Post report. Perrone, 64, was arrested after cops found the weapon he allegedly used in the killings — a .22 caliber sawed-off rifle with a laser light taped to it — and a duffel bag in his girlfriend's Brooklyn home, according to the Huffington Post. Vahidipour Rahmatollah of Great Neck, one of the three victims allegedly killed by Perrone, died Nov. 16 after being shot twice to the head and once to the torso at the She She Boutique at 834 Flatbush Ave. in Brooklyn. Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said the weapon was the same gun used in the three homicides and that he believed Perrone was not done killing.

Southampton

Southampton Town polic arrested two men and charged them with stealing an engine block worth $500 from a Hampton Bays auto repair shop. According to police, the incident occurred in the early morning hours, before the shop opened, when two male subjects allegedly used an engine hoist to load the engine block into the back of a pick-up truck and drove away. Police believe the engine block was later sold for scrap metal. On Friday, Southampton Town police arrested Bruce Hale, 62, of Riverside and charged him with petit larceny, a misdemeanor. He was arraigned and held on $300 bail. On Saturday, Bruce Holland, 65, of Flanders, was arrested by Southampton Town Police and also charged with petit larceny. He was brought to police headquarters for arrest processing and released on an appearance ticket for arraignment at a later date.  

Hicksville

Burglaries and car thefts dominated the crime reports in the Plainview area last week.

Ten burglaries were reported in one week in neighboring areas, six of them in Hicksville. Incidences ranged from break-ins with no reported losses to theft of cash, jewelry, and electronics.

Another crime trend Nassau County Police reported was car-related crimes across the area. Four cars were stolen in surrounding areas, two from Long Island Rail Road stations
