Crime Nearby: Sports Memorabilia Proves Costly

Notable arrests and convictions on Long Island.

A man who allegedly lifted $2,000 in merchandise from a Westbury sports memorabilia store in July was tracked down and arrested Thursday by Nassau County Police.

Adam D. Gibson, 29, of Merrick, police allege, stuffed the valuable memorabilia into his shorts pockets and walked out without paying from A&S Sports Store on July 5.

When police tracked Gibson to his home last week, they say he fled the scene in his 2011 Infiniti at a high rate of speed, failing to stop for multiple vehicle and traffic signs.

Alleged Drunk Driver Hits Cop Car

An upstate man faces multiple charges after police say hesideswiped a Nassau Police car while it was stopped on the shoulder of the Long Island Expressway at Plainview late Tuesday.

A car driven by John McNamara, 21, of Highland Mills, Orange County, was eastbound near Exit 49 when about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday when his car drifted onto the shoulder and slammed into a Nassau Highway Patrol Bureau car. An officer was in the vehicle at the time, police said.

McNamara, who police said was speeding, fled the scene but was eventually pulled over near Exit 49 by the same officer whose vehicle had been struck.

The officer determined McNamara was drunk; he was placed under arrest without incident and no injuries were reported.

The defendant is charged with driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an incident and five other infractions.

Rap Mogul’s Stalker Arrested Nearby

Quamine T. Taylor, who was first arrested at rap mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs' house 12 years ago and then again last year, was arrested Friday in East Hampton – again.

East Hampton Town Police Chief Ed Ecker said Taylor was stopped after police investigated a report of a suspicious person in Combs' Northwest Woods neighborhood.

Police found with a small amount of marijuana on Taylor. He was issued an appearance ticket for a charge of unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation. He's due in East Hampton Justice Court on Aug. 28.

The 31-year-old Queens man wasn't brought up on charges related to Combs this time, but his arrest begs the question what Taylor was doing near the rap impresario's waterfront house, despite a court order to stay away from Combs' houses being in place.

Taylor's mother told The New York Post last year that Taylor has a long history of mental illness.

Wrong-Way DWI For NYPD Cop

According to New York State Police, around 1:45 a.m., a Mazda MPV was spotted driving the wrong way on the Southern State Parkway, eastbound in the westbound lanes, near exit 17 in West Hempstead.

Police said the Mazda driven by Holmes struck five vehicles. One person was transported to Nassau University Medical Center for minor injuries and three others were treated at the accident scene, but not admitted.
