DA: Ex-Cop Pleads Guilty to Skipping Work to Have Affairs

A retired Nassau County Police officer pleaded guilty Monday to a battery of misconduct charges stemming from visits he made to two girlfriends while on duty, the Nassau County District Attorney's office announced.

Michael Tedesco, 45, of Holbrook, pleaded guilty to 75 counts of official misconduct before Judge William Donnino. Tedesco was ordered to forfeit his $194,847.88 termination package and will serve 100 hours of community service. He was also required to pay $3,739.29 in restitution for the 67 hours of time he stole.

Tedesco was accused of going to the houses of two mistresses while he was on duty between 2010 and 2012. According to GPS records, the DA said Tedesco spent hundreds of hours and racked up thousands in wasted hours at the womens' homes. He reportedly "lingered" at their homes even after receiving emergency calls for alarms, domestic disturbances, and possibly reports of a cardiac arrest, said the DA.

Tedesco then falsified NCPD communications records so it would seem he was on time responding to calls, said the DA.

Internal Affairs began an investigation when a neighbor reported seeing Tedesco's police cruiser in a driveway for hours on end on a regular basis.

As rumors flew about the scandal, Tedesco, an 18-year veteran of NCPD, resigned in April 2012 from his post at the Seventh Precinct in Seaford. 

“This sentence is a win for Nassau County taxpayers who paid thousands of dollars in wages to a police officer who failed to serve the public he swore to protect,” said NCDA Kathleen Rice. “Instead of remaining at his post to respond to any emergency, this defendant deceived his fellow officers and the public in order to engage in personal relationships while on duty. I would like to thank the Nassau County Police Department for its efforts to help ensure that Mr. Tedesco be held accountable for this breach of the public’s trust.”
