Fire At Sunrise Mall

Blaze at Forever 21 Sunday leads to heavy smoke.

A fire at the Westfield Sunrise Mall led led to a smoke condition for several hours, Sunday, officials said.

The blaze broke out in the rear of the Forever 21 store, shortly before 8 p.m.. according to Massapequa Fire Chief Stephen Daresta. 

By the time firefighters arrived, the blaze had been put out by the store's automatic sprinkler system, but it left a heavy smoke through the mall.

Firefighters and Mall security forces used large fans to air out the mall for several hours.

The mall was closed when firefighters arrived, Daresta said.
