Gary Persichetti Wins Massapequa Fire Commissioner Election

Former Department Chief elected to first term.

Veteran Massapequa Fire Deparment member Gary Persichetti will become the district's newest Fire Commissioner.

Perschetti was elected to his first term Tuesday night defeating another longtime member, Joseph Giordano.

Persichetti, 57, received 772 votes to Giordano's 445. He will fill the seat of the retiring Tom McCarthy for a five year term.

The 37-year department member served as Chief of Department from 1992 to 1994.  He became the head of the Massapequa training program in 2000.

Also Tuesday, Raymond Averna was elected to his first full term as a Massapequa Water Commissioner. Averna, who was elected to fill an unexpired term a year ago, will serve three years.

He ran unopposed and received 135 votes.
