A grenade was found by a Town of Oyster Bay employee Tuesday at the Town's Old Bethpage Sort Facility, according to Nassau County Police.
Nassau Arson/Bomb Squad detectives were called to remove the grenade, which was discovered while the employee was sifting through recyclables at about 11:20 a.m.
While it's unclear whether the grenade was still live, detectives removed it to a secure facility where it will be destroyed, police said.
“They treat anything found that resembles an explosive device as live," said Christopher Barling, a Nassau Police spokesperson.
No charges are pending.
