When we realized that Mom would need 24/7 care and that "strangers" would be living in the house, all of her valuables, documents, checkbook and personal items were removed by my sister for safekeeping. Better safe than sorry and it actually please her aides, as they could not be falsely accused of any wrong doing. It is a very difficult to entrust your loved one, especially a parent, to someone you don't know. It's also a good idea for family members to stop in unannounced to visit, which keeps the aide on notice that someone cares. God Bless all that are at this point in life.

I just had the same thing happened to me with a home health aide through IHSS that was supposedly background checked. She stole tons of gift cards and a lot of other stuff including my son's ipod and accessories..total value of several thousand dollars...happened when I was in the emergency room trying to get a blood infection under control.Never would have suspected this from her...she is very good at what she does and seeming believable that she cares..lives with her mom who covers her lying stories..will be finding out hopefully how to press charges..I am sure there must be a way.Her name is Kayla Peak or Kayla Peak-Cabada and did this in san diego but apparently has done IHSS in orange county as well.

@typical, does is matter what town they r from? As long as they do their job right and they are HONEST....shouldn't really matter what own they r from. And what do you mean " THOSE PEOPLE" are banned? Do you set up the aides for these people?? I used to work in the medical field and there are ALOT of Home Health Agencys near Good Sam (which is near "central Islip") Just my opinion I think ur statement was inappropriate.........jus sayn. ANNNND who's to say "someone from MASSAPEQUA AGENCY THESE DAYS WOULDN'T DO THAT??????

Let's just end this all by stating that this was a real crappy person who did this to the elderly. I was brought up to respect and protect elders who couldn't protect and care for themselves. To see a slim ball like this take advantage of someone who needs care makes me sick.
