Man Killed in Hit-And-Run Accident on Merrick Road

A black Nissan was reported fleeing the scene in Massapequa Monday.

A pedestrian was struck and killed in a hit-and-run accident while trying to cross Merrick Road in Massapequa Monday evening, Nassau Police said.

The unidentified man was hit by a vehicle at 8:45 p.m. on the road in front of the 7-Eleven at 5570 Merrick Road. A black Nissan 300zx reportedly fled the scene, according to police. The vehicle was headed east on Merrick Road.

The man was described by Massapequa Fire Department officials at the scene as a male in his mid-50s or mid-60s. He was pronounced dead at the scene, having suffered what fire department officials described as major head and neck trauma.
