Massapequa and North Massapequa Fire Departments to Participate in Sixth Battalion Parade

Parade featuring fire departments in southeast Nassau County scheduled for Seaford late Saturday afternoon.

Two area Fire Departments will take part in the annual Sixth Battalion Parade on Saturday.

The Sixth Battalion consists of fire departments in Seaford, Wantagh, Levittown, Bellmore, North Bellmore, Merrick, East Meadow, and The parade is schedule to begin at 5 pm in the Seaford Long Island Railroad Station parking lot before proceeding east on Brooklyn Avenue, south on Washington Avenue, east on Merrick Road and north on Seamans Neck Road to Waverly Avenue. The parade will then end at the Seaford Fire Department headquarters on the corner of Waverly Avenue and Southard Avenue.

Following the parade, there will be a block party at the firehouse consisting of music, refreshments and small bounce houses for the children. Admission is free.

“The members of the Seaford Fire Department are inviting all of our neighbors to come out and show Nassau County's Sixth Battalion what Seaford pride is all about,” said George Kern, chief of the Seaford Fire Department. “Feel free to watch the parade from your front lawn, or head down to the firehouse to watch from the block party.”

Kern said the community should also anticipate road closures and heavy traffic from 5 pm until approximately 6:30 pm. to accommodate the parade route. For photos of last year's Sixth Battalion Parade held in East Meadow, click .

No one has been jailed for the corporate malfeasance that resulted in the financial crash of '08, in spite of the rules that were ignored or broken. Too big to fail is the order of the day. Meanwhile, petty frauds committed by poor and middle class are prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Two Americas. The rule of law, unevenly applied, whether by race, or class, or economic station will result in the unraveling of society. We may well be seeing the beginnings of that now, as we've entered a new gilded age, where new robber barons are allowed to run roughshod over the lower classes. The very ideals of America are at stake, and we are letting them slide away.

The canopies will be primarily over the staircases, elevator, waiting room, and one other small section on the middle section of the platform between the elevator and east escalator.
