Massapequa Man Charged in DWI Crash

Police: Drunk driver had child, 3, in car; Saturday afternoon crash sends one man to hospital.

A Massapequa man with a child in his car was arrested Saturday afternoon and charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, Suffolk County Police said. 

Ryan Hannigan, 36, was charged under Leandra’s Law after the Jeep Grand Cherokee he was driving turned the wrong way down an Amityville street and struck another car, police allege. 

Hannigan, police said, made a left turn into oncoming traffic at the intersection of Oak Street and Broadway at 2 p.m. and crashed. A 34-year-old Copiague man in the other car, a 2007 Nissan Maxima, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip with minor injuries.

Hannigan and his son, 3, were not injured, police said. The child was released to a family member.

The Amityville Village Police Department arrested Hannigan at the scene. Suffolk Police charged Hannigan with DWI and endangering the welfare of a child.

He will arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Central Islip.
