Massapequa Man Dies in Plainview Crash

Police say victim sideswiped another car and careened off the roadway.

A Massapequa man was killed in an Independence Day crash on the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway, Nassau County detectives said.

Michael Sklarsky 51, was driving a 1992 Honda southbound in the right lane of the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway when he sideswiped a 2011 Hyundai being operated by a 62-year-old woman driving in the center lane, police said.

The crash occurred just before 9 p.m. Monday. The women was not hurt, police said.

Sklarsky’s vehicle careened off the expressway, traveled up an embankment and struck a tree. From there, the car continued through a fence, coming to a stop on West Lane Drive in Plainview, according to police. 

Emergency crews converged on the scene and the victim was transported to a local hospital. He died there shortly after 6 a.m. Tuesday, according to police.

An investigation determined that Sklarsky had been driving under the influence of alcohol, police said.
