Massapequa Man Killed After Being Chased by Cops

Crashes car after fleeing traffic stop in Suffolk County.

A Massapequa man was behind the wheel of a car that fled from police Saturday morning, and crashed a few miles away killing the driver and his passenger, police said.

Rocco Coscia, 36 was driving a 2003 Toyota Camry when Suffolk County police attempted to pull it over for a traffic violation near the intersection of Irving Avenue and Jackson Street  in Wyandanch, at about 8:30 p.m.

But Coscia sped away and headed south towards West Babylon, cops said.

With police in pursuit, Coscia lost control of the vehicle near the intersection of Straight Path and 11th Street about two and a half miles away from where police tried to stop him.

He struck a shed, a tree and a parked car before the Camry flipped over, cops said.

Coscia was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip, where he was pronounced dead. His  passenger, Michael Griffen, 42, of Wyandanch, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Suffolk County police said they recovered drugs that were thrown out of the window of the the car during the pursuit.

The Camry was impounded for a safety check, police said.
