Massapequa Woman Falls of Runaway Horse

Rider transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries Monday afternoon.

A Suffolk County Police Officer flagged down a horse on the loose Monday afternoon after its rider fell off in .

The rider, a 55-year-old Massapequa woman, was sent to Stony Brook University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, though police could not further specify the extent of the injuries.

According to police, SCPD received a call near 1:15 on Monday that a horse was on the loose in the 627-acre park. Assisting Parks Police, a Suffolk County Police Officer drove as far as he could into the park before locating the horse on foot.

Police said Officer Thomas Crist then returned the horse to the owner's friends and later found the rider about a mile away from the horse.

Smithtown Fire Department transported the woman to the hospital.
