Mssapequa Crime Report: Another Phone Scam in Massapequa

Sept. 19 to Sept. 24.

The following information was supplied by the Nassau County Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate convictions.

Grand Larceny

On Sept. 17, a Massapequa woman received a call from a man who claimed to be a lawyer representing her son, and another man who claimed to be a lawyer for the US Embassy in Peru, police said. The men claimed that her son had been arrested on drug charges and instructed her to send a Money Gram. Thw woman did so and later discovered her son was not in Peru. When a man called back asking for more money, the woman declined. The incident came just a few days after police said another Massapequa woman was conned by a man who claimed her grandson had been arrested in Mexico.

On Aug 29, an iPod, jewelry and a GPS was stolen from a 2009 black Dodge on Hawthorne Street in Massapequa.

On Sept. 17 someone left a gym bag containing jewelry, an iPad and a cell phone on a bench at Field of Dreams Park and went for a run. When she returned, the bag was gone.

Bicycle Theft

On Sept. 18, a bicycle was reported stolen from the backyard of a home on North Hawthorne Street in Massapequa.

On Sept. 23, a bicycle that was chained up at Krisch's Restaurant was stolen between 9:30 a.m. and 9:45 a.m.

DWI

On Sept. 20, Steven Classi, 30 of  Massapequa, was arrested on Merrick Road near Seaford Avenue, Massapequa and charged with Driving While Intoxicated and 2 violations of the Vehicle and Traffic Law.

Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle

On Sept. 19, Jeremy Malaspinas, 23, of Farmingdale, was arrested on Madison Street near Dover Street, Massapequa and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle 2nd and two violations of the Vehicle and Traffic Law.

Drug Arrest

On 09/22, Angelique Cruz Katrina, 19 of Crescent Street, Hewlett was arrested at Wal-Mart, 200 Sunrise Mall, Massapequa and charged with petty larceny and criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th.

Criminal Tresspass

On Sept. 21, Adam Halpern, 49 of  South Farmingdale was arrested on Hawthorne Street, Massapequa and charged with Petit Larceny and Criminal Trespass 3rd.

Petty Larceny

On Sept. 20, a Brentwood woman was arrested at Macy’s, at the Sunrise Mall, Massapequa and charged with petty larceny.
