Off-Duty Cop Dies in Southern State Crash

Joseph Capo, 27, of West Islip, served in Manhattan's 9th Precinct.

An off-duty NYPD cop from West Islip died Thursday morning after he lost control of his car and crashed on the Southern State Parkway, cops said. 

According to New York State Police, at 12:56 a.m. Joseph Capo, 27, was driving his 2004 Volkswagen east near Exit 31 when he hit a 2001 Cadillac, flipping his car several times in the accident.
Capo was taken to Nassau University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the Cadillac, Laurine Noble, 54, of Deer Park, was treated for minor injuries.

Capo was an off-duty police officer assigned to the 9th Precinct in Manhattan, cops said. 

The accident investigation is ongoing. Police ask any witnesses to the crash to contact New York State Police at 631-756-3300.
