Victim suffers head injury.

A pedestrian was struck on Sunrise Highway Wednesday afternoon, Nassau County police said.

The accident occurred at 3:30 p.m., when a 42-year-old man was east to west on the highway near Chestnut Street, across from the Westfield Sunrise Mall.

An SUV driven by a 21-year-old woman struck the man, who suffered a serious head injury.

He was in guarded condition at a local hospital.

The driver was not charged and a brake and safety check was performed at the scene.

Police closed off all eastbound lanes of the Highway for about three hours along with other roads in the area.
