Plainview Man Found OK After All-Out Search

Michael Savitsky is being treated at Good Samaritan Hospital in Islip.

A Plainview man suffering from a rare form of amnesia has been located Robert Moses State Park in Suffolk County and is going to be OK.

Michael Savitsky, 45,  who disappeared Wednesday was located by authorities who discovered his late model Hyundai Accent at the popular state park on the western end of Fire Island.

Savitsky's wife, Jodi, confirmed that her husband was located nearby and is being treated at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip.

"He was exposed to the elements, and to the storm overnight," she said. "But he's going to be OK."

Jodi Savitsky said her husband was diagnosed with "transient global amnesia" which is described as a "sudden, temporary episode of memory loss." The episodes are not linked to more common neurological conditions such as epilepsy or stroke.

That illness, coupled with the fact that Savitsky rarely drove a car, set off an all-out search for the Plainview man Thursday. All day and into the evening Thursday, electronic signs reporting his disappearance were flashed to drivers along the Long Island Expressway.

Police had suspected Savitsky may be traveling to Suffolk County.

Nassau Police did not have specifics yet about how Savitsky was found.
