Police Blotter: Announcing a Stickup is No Joke

July 28 to August 3.

The following information is taken directly from the Nassau County Police Department's Seventh and Eighth Precinct incident reports. None of the defendants have been convicted of a crime.

A man who allegedly said "This is a stickup," when he entered Collectors Corner on Sunrise Highway Monday, tried to take it back. Cops wouldn't let him. Arthur Van Salisbury, 42, of Massapequa Park pointed what appeared to be a gun and told the owner he was robbing the store, but then said he was kidding, police said. He fled into a red 2000 Nissan, which cops were able to locate. They brought Van Salisbury back to the scene and the owner identified him. He was charged with  attempted robbery and weapons possession. The gun turned out to be a replica.

On August 1, a man was seriously injured when he fell off the side of a moving car, police said. The incident happened at around 10 p.m. near the intersection of Edward Street and Sunrise Drive. The driver had gone to a house party to pick up a friend and several people tried to jump in the car at the same time. The victim fell off the running board as the car began to drive away, police said. He struck his head, but refused to go to the hospital. Several hours later, the victim told his parents what happened, and they took him to a hospital where a cat scan revealed he had a fractured skull and a blood clot on the brain, police said.
