Police Blotter: Burglaries During Hurricane

Aug 24 to Aug 29.

The following information was supplied by the Nassau County Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate convictions.

Burglaries

There were several burglaries that occurred in the Massapequa area before and during last week's hurricane, police said. Here are some:

On Aug. 27, someone pried open the rear window at the USA Gas Station located at 5545 Merrick Road, and took cash, cops said.

During the overnight hours between Aug. 27 and Aug 28, a burglar broke the window of  and stole cash and cigarettes, according to police.

A Dairy Barn store was broken into during the overnight hours between Aug. 27 and Aug. 28, police said. A burglar entered the store at 615 Broadway and took cash.

On Aug. 27, somebody broke into a home on Hawthorne Street in Massapequa Park, taking money and a camera, cops said.

During the overnight hours between Aug. 27 and Aug. 28, a home on Spray Street was burglarized. The burglar broke a a sliding glass door in the rear of the home, taking money and a TV, police said.

During the overnight hours between Aug. 27 and Aug. 28, a home on Roosevelt Avenue in East Massapequa was broken into by a burglar who took jewelry and three TVs, police said.

Two homes on Ozone Place were broken into during the overnight hours between Aug. 27 and Aug. 28, cops said. A coat and jewelry were swiped from one home, while a Wii system, an Xbox, a Playstation3, two TVs and jewelery were taken from the other.

A  home on Roosevelt Avenue was broken into during the overnight hours between Aug. 27 and Aug. 28, police said. The thief broke in through a rear door and took a TV.

During the overnight hours between Aug. 27 and Aug. 28, a home was broken into on Camp Road. The burglar came in through a basement window and took jewelry.

Auto Theft

On Aug. 25, a 1996 Green Ford Explorer was reported stolen on Jefferson Place in Massapequa.

DWI Arrests

On Aug 27, Christopher E Gonzalez, 20, of Freeport was arrested on Sunrise Highway near Riverside Avenue, Massapequa and charged with driving while intoxicated and three violations of the Vehicle and Traffic Law.

On Aug. 27, Asmir Smaili, 24, of Brooklyn was arrested on Veterans Boulevard, Massapequa and charged with driving while intoxicated and two violations of the Vehicle and Traffic Law.

On Aug. 29, Joseph Sanchez, 38, of Massapequa was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, refusal to take a breath test, leaving incident without a report and one violation of the Vehicle and Traffic Law.

Criminal Mischief 

On Aug. 27, the tires of 13 vehicles parked on Celina Road in Massapequa were punctured by vandals, police said.

On Aug. 28, Shaquay T Minter, 18, of Amityville was arrested on Ford Drive West, Massapequa and charged with criminal mischief 3rd and two violations of the Vehicle and Traffic Law.

Forgery Arrest

On Aug. 25, Latoya S Kelly, 28, of the Bronx was arrested at Chase Bank, 4210 Sunrise Highway, Massapequa and charged with possession of a forged instrument 2nd.

Petty Larceny Arrests

On Aug. 24, an Amityville man was arrested at JC Penny at the Sunrise Mall and charged with petty larceny.

On Aug. 24, a Brentwood woman was arrested at Wal-Mart at the Sunrise Mall and charged with petty larceny.

On Aug. 25, a Bethpage woman was arrested at JC Penny at the Sunrise Mall and charged with petty larceny.

On Aug. 29, an  Amityville man was arrested at Wal-Mart at the Sunrise Mall  and charged with petty larceny.

On Aug. 29 a Wyandanch man was arrested at JC Penny at the Sunrise Mall, Massapequa and charged with petty larceny.

On Aug. 29, an Amityville  woman was arrested at JC Penny at the Sunrise Mall and charged with petty larceny.
