Police Blotter: iPad Thieves Hit AT&T Store

Jan 4 to Jan. 11

On January 4, a pair of iPad thieves struck at the Store on Sunrise Highway, police said. A man entered the store and asked a sales person about the iPads and paid for one before leaving the store just before noon. But about 45 minutes later the sales person told cops that the someone fitting the description of the customer returned with another man and they clipped the security wires of two iPads and took off. They were caught on a security camera and a witness saw them running into a sedan and leaving. The suspect who originally entered the store is described as a black male with cornrows, dark cuffed jeans, black sneakers and dark jacket. He was wearing a red baseball cap when he returned to the store. The other man was also a black male who was wearing lighter colored jeans, white sneakers, blue and black jacket, baseball cap and hoodie.

On January 6, a home was broken into on Emily Street in Massapequa, police said. The bedroom window screen was cut and the thief got in through an unlocked window, taking a laptop, police said.

One way to know you're the victim of identity theft is when police call you and tell you you've been taken to the hospital.  That's exactly what happened to a Massapequa Park woman last month, cops said. Police called saying the alleged ID thief was being taken to Nassau University Medical Center for medical and psychological evaluation. The woman told police, the hospitalized woman had been using her identity for two years, police said.
