Police: Massapequa Student Made Threats Against School

Massapequa Park teen charged with making terroristic threats Tuesday.

A student was arrested Tuesday after he was heard making threats against the school, Nassau County Police said.

Ryan Bernhardt, 17, of Massapequa Park, allegedly made the threats in the shop located next to the school at 12:15 p.m.

The teen said he "wanted to bomb the school and be a terrorist," "hates people and wants to kill them," and "wants to go to Europe and kill more people," police said.

Personnel at the school were notified and identified Bernhardt, according to police, who said that two people inside the bagel shop alerted authorities.

Bernhardt was not carrying any weapons, nor were there any weapons found inside his home, police said.

The teen was arrested at his home without incident. He faces a felony charge of making a terrorist threat and is expected to be arraigned sometime Wednesday.

Massapequa School Superintendent Chales Sulc confirmed Bernhardt is a student at the school and said school officials "thoroughly investigated" the incident and alerted authorities. Bernhardt was arrested sometime last night, he said.

"We take every threat seriously," Sulc said, when asked to assess the seriousness of the incident.

School officials will be working with students about any concerns they might have about the incident, and the school is expected to email a letter to parents some time Wednesday, Sulc said.
