Police: Stray Attacks Woman, Kills Local Dog

Owner was walking Yorkshire Terrier in Massapequa.

A woman walking her Yorkshire terrier was attacked by a large gray dog who killed her pet, Nassau County Police said.

The incident happened  in the vicinity of Jomarr Place and Division Avenue at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday night.

The gray dog knocked the 22-year-old woman to the ground and grabbed the Yorkie by the neck. It was able to pull the smaller dog from the woman's arm, but she was able to fight the attacking dog off and retrieve her pet.

The woman wasn't hurt, but her dog later died from his injuries. Police ask anyone with information about this incident to contact the Seventh Precinct at 516-573-6700.

That's just terrible. I hope you're ok. Probably a dog from your neighborhood that got out from the house. I know the area and I know it's surrounded on 3 sides by water. Post some flyers letting your neighbors know what happened.

Sorry for the loss of your puppy. What type of dog was the one that attacked your dog? That fog needs to be caught and taken off the streets before he attacks again.

so so sorry, let's find this dog, what kind of dog? I walk my two dogs often by Starbucks on Merrick Road. Now I have to worry. Any idea what kind of dog? Sorry for your loss of your puppy.

That's shocking and so sad that a large dog could attack a very small dog that didn't do anything, honestly wonder why they attack other dogs for no reason?
