Serial Purse Snatcher May Have Struck in Massapequa

Wednesday night incident may be part of a pattern

A robbery on Camp Road in Massapequa Wednesday night, may have been the work of two men responsible for a string of in the area.

The incident which occurred at about 10:30 p.m. has similarities to thefts that have been going on for the last month. Nobody was hurt.

The men have been robbing female victims as they exit their vehicles in their residential driveways, police said.  The thieves have struck in Levittown twice in November: on Woodcock Lane at 7:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 4, and again on Thursday, Nov. 11, this time on Wheelbarrow Lane at 9:30 p.m.

In all, seven women have been robbed since Oct. 23 in Levittown, Wantagh, East Meadow, Merrick and Baldwin. 

The robbers are described as black men; one about 20 years old, between 5-foot-4 and 5-foot-6, with a thin build and wearing dark clothing.  The other man is described as between 20-25 years old, between 6-foot and 6-foot-2, with a medium build and wearing dark clothing.

The men have been traveling in a dark colored four-door sedan, the Nassau County Police Department reported.

Police are asking anyone with information on the purse snatches to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS (8477) or Nassau County's Robbery Squad at 516-573-8044.  Police are offering up to a $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the robbers. Anyone who gives tips will remain anonymous.
