State Police Chase Man on Southern State Parkway

Huntington man arrested for allegedly speeding near North Massapequa-Farmingdale border.

A Huntington man on a motorcycle sped past troopers on the Southern State Parkway early Monday Morning, state police said.

Shakir Smith, 32, was spotted speeding east towards Farmingdale near the Bethpage Parkway exit in North Massapequa at 1:37 a.m.

He allegedly refused to stop and kept going towards Babylon with officers in pursuit. The motorcyclist got off in Babylon to drop of his passenger and then sped off again, according to cops.

Officers caught up with the passenger who gave them Smith's identity.  When troopers arrived at his home, Smith allegedly fled on foot.

But he was nabbed a short time later by troopers and police dogs.

Smith was charged with fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle 3rd, resisting arrest, reckless driving, aggravated unlicensed operation and several traffic violations.

There are lots of motorcycles speeding on the Southern State throughout the night. I can hear them from several blocks away at all hours of the night.

Motor cycles shouldn't go over the speed of 80 mph. Why do we need cars or motor cyvcles to go that fast. The speed limit is no more than 65. Most of the younger kids think it is a game to cut people off and in and between cars. You fall on a motor cycle going that fast, you are road pizza, and you deserve it if you ride like a dick. This kid was nothing but a perp, and he got what he deserved. The should take his license away for good.
