State Police Make 39 DWI Arrests During Holidays

Farmimgdale troop issues nearly 3,000 tickets.

State Police made 39 arrests for DWI on Long Island, during the holiday season, according to numbers released Wednesday.

Farmingdale-based Troop L, which patrols the Northern and Southern State Parkways, also issued 819 speeding tickets between Dec. 14 and Jan. 1.

Troopers participated in the Nationwide "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign, an impaired driving enforcement campaign, sponsored by the US Transportation Department.

In all, Troop L issued 2,841 tickets during the holidays, while more than 33,000 tickets were issued statewide.

State Police set up 29 sobriety checkpoints and ten saturation details, which are roving details tar getting specific areas.  There were twelve details dedicated to underage drinking and sales to minors, and 41 additional dedicated local DWI patrols.

There were 538 DWI arrests in New York state. In addition, to the checlpoints, there were 22 arrests for providing alcohol to minors made by state police.
