Update: State Police Arrest Man For Driving Wrong Way on Southern State

Driver taken into custody following early morning incident that began in Massapequa.

State Police arrested a man early Saturday morning after he allegedly drove drunk the wrong way on the Southern State Parkway.

Troopers received a call at about 5:15 a.m. from a witness who told them a driver was headed east in the westbound lane of the Parkway near the Bethpage Parkway exit in Massapequa, state police said.

The driver, Leston Douglas, 25, of Lindenhurst, allegedly struck a Toyota and left the scene of the accident.

He was arrested a short time later in Suffolk County and charged with DWI, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Driving the Wrong Way, and Unlicensed Operation. No injuries were sustained in the accident.
