Storm Spares Massapequa

No repeat of March wind storm.

Mother Nature missed us this time.

A brief but powerful storm ripped through Long Island Thursday afternoon, leaving a trail of downed wires and uprooted trees. 

But Massapequa was spared the full brunt of the storm.

"We were lucky this time, we only have one report of a downed wire," said Massapequa Fire Chief Peter Anglim.

The Long Island Power Authority reported more than 200 customers in the Massapequa area were without power, but northern areas of the Town of Oyster Bay had outages in the thousands.

It was a far cry from the March storm that left thousands without power for days in Massapequa and knocked over numerous trees, wires and utility poles.
