Queens Teacher From Massapequa Charged With Raping Student

Joy Morsi raped 16-year-old boy multiple times inside Queens high school, DA says.

A teacher from Massapequa is charged with raping a 16-year-old boy multiple times inside a Queens high school, the Queens District Attorney's office said Tuesday.

Joy Morsi, 39, was arraigned this week on 20 counts of third-degree rape, 20 counts of third-degree criminal sexual act, and one count of endangering the welfare of a child.

Queens Criminal Court Judge Ernest Hart set Morsi's bail at $25,000.

Prosecutors said Morsi, a gym teacher at Grover Cleveland High School in Ridgewood, had sex with a 16-year-old boy in the basement and other locations inside the school. Morsi molested her student between June 5 and July 24, 2013, prosecutors said.

We find these claims disturbing and reprehensible and she will remain reassigned — far from any student and the school — pending a criminal investigation,” Department of Education Deputy Press Secretary Marcus Liem told the NY Daily News. “We will work closely with the school to ensure they are given any needed support.”

Morsi faces up to four years in prison if convicted.

“This case is particularly disturbing because the defendant is a teacher and schools should be safe havens for children," Queens DA Richard Brown said. "Instead, this defendant is accused of sexually preying upon one of her students during rendezvous all over the school."

Morsi is due back in court June 23.
