The Nassau Police Department is planning a major reorganization following the announcement that eight precincts will merge into four.

County officials say the move will make the department more efficient and note that all 177 patrol cars will remain on the streets.

Desk jobs will be eliminated and four precincts will be transformed into community policing centers.
