Nassau County Police Commissioner Thomas Dale lost his job this week after prosecutors reportedly determined his actions in an investigation were "politically motivated."

County Executive Ed Mangano accepted Dale's resignation after District Attorney Kathleen Rice came to him with evidence that Dale "personally directed his officers to pull over a county bus in October and arrest a witness in a politically motivated election-year case," according to Newsday.

The arrested man Randy White, 29, of Roosevelt, claimed that former Freeport Mayor Andrew Hardwick was paying for White to gather signatures he obtained to get Hardwick on the ballot for Nassau County executive. Hardwick's presence on the ballot could have impacted Democrat Tom Suozzi's campaign.

Rice said Gary Melius, owner of the Oheka Castle catering hall and a Hardwick donor, requested police arrest White.

Rice told Mangano her office found no criminality and both Mangano and Melius have denied wrongdoing, but we want to know your thoughts?

Do you think the investigation crossed the line? Should Dale have lost his job? Should Rice have charged someone in this case? What does this say about the state of the Nassau County Police Department?
