Weigh in on Vandalism Incidents

A number of cars and at least one home were vandalized during a 24 hour period last week. Is this a trend?

It was not a pleasant week for several Massapequa and Massapequa Park residents.

They discovered that their There was no description of any possible suspects and the vandalism appeared to be limited to broken windows.

For some that might be a small matter, but others feel that these type of incidents affect the quality of life and are extremely important  to a community.

It also comes after in February

We want to know how you feel about these incidents. How concerned are you?

A lot of good the $150,000 a year Nassau cops do to help this while their all sitting 4-5 cars wide sometimes bullshitting in the train station parking lot. It's not bad enough their way overpaid and milk whatever overtime they can but at least do you jobs and PATROL when you're supposed to. Not catch up on scuttlebutt.

Maybe instead of blaming the cops blame the patents who can't control their kids.. patents need to get better control over their kids it's a disgraces how these kids are now a days no respect for anything because they know mommy and daddy will bail there ass out of trouble. Maybe time to set curfews. The crime and drugs are out of control in Massapequa. I call cops almost every night on the kids doing drugs near my home its a shame to .. parents be more PARENTS to your kids then friends...

I've been here since the 50's and I remember when you felt extremely safe and secure here in Motzah-pizza. There was no crime and no drugs. Our schools were revered and we graduated with a direction. Of course, those were the days when Gambino was our neighbor. Say what you'd like, but our town was better off with the likes of the "Mob" here, instead of the severe gangs who run the streets today in the country -- no one is safe these days.

I agree with Massapequa mom. The parents need to control their kids and have a clue as to what they are doing and who they are hanging out with. They need to start being parents and get a clue.I have lived here for over 40 yrs and went to school here, and seeing this crap where kids are disrespectful makes me sick. These kids watch crap on tv with this rap, gangster BS and think they are bad asses from Brooklyn...... Got news for you kids, you have no idea what that is all about and you don't want to know, you live in the suburbs and aren't bad asses, trust me you would crap in your pants if you knew how it really is. As for the parents, stop kissing your kids ass and take control of them, grow up because you are their parent and not their friend. And if the cops call u , or the school calls u and says your son or daughter did something bad..... Guess what? They probably did what they said your kid did. As for the police dept, yes they are overpaid here in Nassau for what they do. They need to be cops and get on the ball and earn the money they make. City cops live out here and see how much a disgrace it is that these guys can't handle easy nonsense like controlling the teens and keeping out the bad element that comes into our community. Get some balls.

Ed Mangano has closed 50% of our precincts, has not hired a single police officer in 5 years, and has 150 less cops on patrol each tour. You want more patrols then elect a politician who hires more cops!!
bob gee August 13, 2012 at 10:26 pm
instead of hiring, redistribute what you have. get rid of the dozen police officers that are in the P.A.L, get rid of all the dead wood in the supervisory positions, have all the police officers in clerical positionso work on patrol at least one day per week in lieu of their clerical position. turn over community relations, public information offices etc to civilians. go to a police station and file a report and see who takes it, a police officer, why not a police civilian aid??? there's stll plenty of empty suits that could be eliminated.

well maybe if the cops were doing their jobs the kids would GET CAUGHT and that might open the parents eyes to whats going on and teach other kids a lesson of what will happen if you break the law , , kids dont get caught will just keep doing it , , My Taxes dont pay the parents to teach their kids right from wrong, my taxes pay the cops to catch the bastards doing it not sit on their asses while their cars are wasting yet more of the tax payers money running with the air conditioning on, , its called PATROLLING, , funny I never see a cop car just drive down my block at a regular speed , , their either bullshitting in a parking lot somewhere or responding to a call, , put GPS Trackers in the cars where homeowners can see where they are all night and then see how our money is spent
LAZY COPS August 14, 2012 at 02:42 am
well when they get their head out of their asses and hire Ticket cops to just give out summonses instead of Police officers wasting time directing traffic and giving out registration tickets maybe there will be a need to hire more cops
LAZY COPS August 14, 2012 at 02:44 am
Im with BOB , , do we really need a cop sitting behind a desk taking police reports making $125K a year and holding a gun ? NO, , thats a $30K secretaries job, , ,

I graduated Berner in 1985. Zappa Woods, which is no longer there, was the favorite hangout for students to go smoke pot during off periods of school. Drugs are not new and neither is teenagers doing stupid or even bad things. What is new is the prescription drug problem.
How many people do you know who have various pain killers or mood modifying drugs? Instead of stealing from liquor cabinets, kids steal from medicine cabinets and the ramifications are far worse. Instead of complaining about the police or talking about the good ole days which weren't always as wonderful as some like to think, isn't it time we addressed what's going on with the prescription drug crisis or the fact that there is no cure for addiction? Cops can't be everywhere and they certainly cannot cure the need for a high that drives some addicts to commit crime.
Massa August 14, 2012 at 02:29 pm
Kristen, I also grew up and went to the other high school in the 80's. Yes , Massapequa HS teens had their spots to hang and smoke pot to. Things were happening then , I do agree, but heroin is also the new thing that us making these kids nuts. Your kids go to school to get an education.... Ok, when they are home, it is our job as parents to school them about being a good person, schooling them on things like drugs and sex and NOT to dress and act like a Brooklyn gang banger. I am no goody , goody . I played sports all my life and have a good job and a great family, but I got that from my parents and my family members growing up. These kids are from good homes, but their parents let them do what whatever they want and don't watch what they are doing, who they are hanging out with, or wearing when they leave the house. You wear your pants and hat like a gangbanger, expect to be treated like one.Your kids are inspired by role models like parents and people they see on tv. If my kids came home and said I want to be like 50 cent, you know you screwed up as a parent. And if you have a medicine cabinet full of prescription drugs, lock it up . Stop blaming everyone else like most parents do. NO More Excuses Parents. Gina thanks for the comments.

Massa, do you think it really can be reduced to how a kid dresses or the music they listen to? I'm sorry to say that there are plenty of kids who don't always get the proper parental guidance. Drug addiction can hit homes that you would deem the "good ones." The amazing thing about addiction is that it can happen in homes in which parents care about their kids too.

Our car was one of 7 to be stolen on the same night. On three occasions our cars along with dozen's of others were broken into. IFO our home and at the Mass. RR Station. So what do we do about it? Report every crime and ask for the report number. Keep records on your kitchen calender. After reading what happened recently with fudged numbers its obvious that crime reports mean something. And has something to do with where they assign police officers. If it doesn't then it's time to change that. Look how much the county is spending on those gunshot spotters in certain areas. Lets not be left out in the cold because those areas need so much of "OUR" county resources. We need to organize and put real pressure on our local, town, and county officials, including the PD. Tell them to do something about what has been happening without blaming anyone. Have them get back to you. They all keep all correspondence. And yes the heroin problem is bigger that anyone can believe in Massapequa. The epidemic effects all of us. Don't expect the police, and schools to do it alone. We all need to be involved any way possible with time, money or resources.

when you say elite do you mean the hard working people who have money? it's a matter of labels. youRead More call them elite..they call themselves hard workers. yes, some inherit money. but most of us work for it.
Michael Taustine June 16, 2013 at 09:01 pm
No, it has nothing to do with how hard you work. It's just that the elite one percenters are treatedRead More differently when they run afoul of the laws in this country. No one has been jailed for the corporate malfeasance that resulted in the financial crash of '08, in spite of the rules that were ignored or broken. Too big to fail is the order of the day. Meanwhile, petty frauds committed by poor and middle class are prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Two Americas. The rule of law, unevenly applied, whether by race, or class, or economic station will result in the unraveling of society. We may well be seeing the beginnings of that now, as we've entered a new gilded age, where new robber barons are allowed to run roughshod over the lower classes. The very ideals of America are at stake, and we are letting them slide away.

Will the new Massapequa station platform be covered end-to-end as it is now? If it will only beRead More partially covered, like Seaford station, there are going to be a lot of cold, wet, unhappy commuters.
Patrick O'Hara June 12, 2013 at 04:14 pm
Mr. Coyote, The design plans only call for a canopy over certain parts of the station platform, likeRead More almost all of the other stations along the branch. The canopies will be primarily over the staircases, elevator, waiting room, and one other small section on the middle section of the platform between the elevator and east escalator.
