Update: Woman Falls From LIRR Tracks

Plunges from Massapequa Park station.

A woman fell from the elevated tracks of the Massapequa Park Long Island Rail Road station Tuesday afternoon, police said.

She was able to escape the terrifying situation with her life, but was hospitalized with injuries she sustained in the fall.

The injuries were not believed to be life threatening.

The incident happened shortly after noon.  Police did not say how the woman ended up on the tracks, but an MTA spokesman said the incident is being investigated as a possible suicide attempt.

But as the train pulled into the station, she scrambled for her life and jumped, landing on the Front Street side of the tracks, and was taken to an area hospital.

The woman in her 50s, was not hit by the train and was taken to Nassau University Medical Center.

Trains were delayed because of the incident.
