A Gas Port Off The South Shore.

A hearing will be held this week about a proposed natural gas port off the south shore. WHat do you think of the idea?

A proposal to build a liquified natural gas port off the coast of Long Island has drawn some questions and concerns from elected officials and other civic leaders.

The facility called "Port Ambrose" would be built about 19 miles  south of Jones Beach.

THere will be two hearings on the proposal, one in Long Beach Tuesday and another in New Jersey Wednesday, but environmental activists are calling for a longer public comment period.

Project supporters say it will bring jobs to the area and boost the local economy while opponents fear that it will lead to more natual gas development on Long Island.

We want to know what you think. do you support the project? Would you like to see a longer public comment period?
