County Finishes Aerial West Nile Spraying

Another Mosquito pool tests positive in Nassau County.

County Health officials announced that aerial spraying for the West Nile virus was completed Thursday.

The final section sprayed was the area south of Northern Boulevard  and north of Jericho Turnpike from the Queens border to route 107.

The county said they will continue to monitor mosquito traps around the area and breeding sites for mosquitoes.

Meanwhile, health officials announced that 22 additional mosquito pools have tested positive for West Nile including one in Massapequa. That sample was collected on August 5 and state officials confirmed the positive test yesterday.

The 71 positive mosquito tests that have been collected in Nassau County this year are the highest number since they started keeping data 1999, health officials said.

Residents are urged to be careful of standing water, where mosquitoes can breed.
