Rally to Create a Child Safety Zone

Sunrise Hwy Gets License to Kill by New York State Officials

A Rally to create a Child Safety Zone to protect children from crossing a “killer highway”

Sunrise Hwy locally has taken the lives of one pedestrian every six months. Massapequa School Board Trustee Gary Bennett with the help of NY Senator Charles Fuschillo, has been fighting against NY Dept. of Transportation who has turned a deaf ear to the obvious dangers of having children cross this highway at peak traffic hours where autos can reach speeds in excess of 70 mph.

Lead speaker at the rally Gary Bennett, will explain how Massapequa children who must walk to school have become the “step children of safety” as the laws and safety rules for them have not been reviewed or changed in over 25 years, while busing rules  are reviewed and rightfully change nearly every year.

This lack of attention has cost more than the one life of young Britney Vega who was killed only last year crossing Sunrise on her way to school against her parents wishes and unbeknown to them.

Children are risk takers; therefore it is our duty to protect them against themselves. The only way to insure their safety from crossing this Killer Hwy is to incorporate them into existing buses at little or no additional cost.

PLEASE attend and show your support. A child’s life is on the line everyday we debate the obvious. No amount of regret will comfort a family of a fallen child. IF YOU CARE BE THERE.
