Extended Holiday Hours at Ice Rinks

TOBAY Notebook: Holidays will also result in altered sanitation collection.

Oyster Bay's ice rinks will offer extended sessions during the holiday season, beginning Dec. 24 and running through Jan. 1.

“Skaters in the town have the option of skating in the great outdoors at Marjorie R. Post Community Park rink in Massapequa and at Syosset-Woodbury Community Park rink, or indoors at the state-of-the art Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center located in Bethpage Community Park,” said Councilman Anthony Macagnone said.

The town's ice skating holiday schedule will begin with public sessions on Christmas Eve from 10 a.m. to noon and extend through New Year’s Eve. Sessions are held in two hour increments with many beginning 10:00 a.m. and ending as late as 10:00 p.m.

The complete holiday schedule, as well as the remainder of the season, is posted on the Town’s Website www.oyterbaytown.com.

General admission for Oyster Bay residents at the outdoor rinks $5 for adults and less for children, depending on age. Admission to the indoor rink in Bethpage is slightly more.

Sanitation schedules altered for holidays

Town sanitation and S.O.R.T. recycling collection schedules will be modified in observance of the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.

There is no collection on Tuesday, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.

Residents who normally receive town sanitation or recycling collection on Tuesday will have pickup on Wednesday, Dec. 26 and Jan. 2. There is normal collection on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve.

All Town offices will be closed on Christmas and New Year’s Days as well. Town offices will be closed on the afternoons of Christmas Eve and New Years Eve.

Zoning Board Schedule Announced for 2013

The town's Zoning Board of Appeals has approved a schedule of meeting dates for 2013. The meetings, all set for Thursday's at 7 p.m. in the town board room in Oyster Bay, are:

First half, 2013:

  • Jan. 10, 24, Feb. 7, 21, March 7, 21, April 4, 18, May 2, 16, 30, June 13, 27

Second half, 2013:

  • July 11, 25, Aug. 8, 22, Sept. 12, 26, Oct. 10, 24, Nov. 7, 21, Dec. 12

The Zoning Board of Appeals is an autonomous body that issues variances from the Town’s zoning ordinances and conducts public hearings on such requests. Its seven members are appointed by the Town Board for five-year terms. Meetings are open to the public.

Copies of the ZBA agenda are available are posted on the Town’s Web site, www.oysterbaytown.com, the Monday before the meeting.
