The Oyster Bay Democratic Committee presented five candidates Friday to run as a "reform" ticket in November's Town Board election.

At a press conference Friday in front of Town Hall, the five said they will address what they termed fiscal mismanagement in the Town of Oyster Bay.

The Democratic ticket led by Farmingdale's John Capobianco, who will again challenge Supervisor John Venditto's 18-year run. The others are Town Clerk nominee Mili Makhijani and Town Board nominees Chris Briggs, Shaker Nelanuthala, and Kimberly Snow.

Dave Gugerty, Town of Oyster Bay Leader, held a press conference Friday to officially announce the slate.

"This could be like 1999," said Dave Gugerty, Oyster Bay Democratic Leader, of the last shakeup in town government. "When [Town Clerk Steve Labriola] left, we knew this would be the year."

However, both Democrats and Republicans comprise the team.

"The fiscal mismanagement is something that needs to be addressed," said Briggs, a long-time Republican from Oyster Bay. "As John Venditto says, we do have great parks. But there are other things to this town...We have the people on Main Street."

"The Town of Oyster Bay has run itself into the ground," said Capobianco, a member of the Farmingdale Board of Education, in reference to downgraded bond ratings. "When we're in office, things will change. We'll bring fiscal sanity back to the town. We'll reduce the debt. We'll change the climate for economic growth and development, and you will see the Town of Oyster Bay blossom into the 21st century."
