King Wins GOP Primary

Defeats Previdi in landslide.

Rep. Peter King easily defeated a primary challenge from Robert Previdi in the Republican primary in the 3rd Congressional District Tuesday night.

King, whose been a member of Congress since 1993, held a commanding 91 percent of the vote leading Previdi 20,472 to 2,096 with 98 percent of precincts reporting, according to unnofficial results posted by the Nassau County  and Suffolk County election boards.  

Previdi, a Manhasset resident, had lost to King in three previous elections. King, the ranking member of the Committee of Homeland Security, will face Democratic candidate Howard Kudler of Merrick in the general election.

The only other local primary in the Massapequa area featured a candidate who had already dropped out of the race. In the Democratic primary for the state senate seat in the 6th District, Plainview businesswoman Francesca Carlow defeated fellow Dave Mejias 71 to 29 with 98 percent of the precincts reporting. Mejias quit campaigning  following his arrest for allegedly stalking his ex-girlfriend. Carlow will face incumbent Republican Kemp Hannon in November.
